Its main objective is to carry out research of excellence in the use of medicines in the field of Primary Care.
The unit has expertise in carrying out studies with different methodologies. The main lines of research are interrelated and form part of two main areas:
Pharmacoepidemiological and pharmacovigilance studies with large databases focused on studying the effectiveness and safety of medicines in real conditions of use and in understudied populations, such as children, polymedicated patients, pregnancy, lactation and the elderly.
Prospective studies with the inclusion of patients, fundamentally clinical trials with medicines and healthcare products that respond to the specific needs of Primary Care, with a pragmatic design that emulates clinical practice itself and, at the same time, generates new scientific evidence, facilitating the transfer of knowledge to healthcare.

Degree in Pharmacy at the Universitat de València (1999-2004), specialist in Hospital Pharmacy via FIR (Parc de Salut Mar de Barcelona, 2008-2012) and Doctor of Pharmacology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Department of Pharmacology, Therapeutics and Toxicology, 2016) with the thesis ‘Effectiveness and safety of thromboembolic prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation’, receiving the Extraordinary Doctorate Award for the 2015-16 academic year in 2019. Since 2012, she has been working as a Research Scientist in Pharmacoepidemiology at the IDIAPJGol Medicines Research Unit, a research group accredited by AGAUR in 2023, where she mainly conducts research studies on drug use, effectiveness and safety using the SIDIAP database: She has participated as a researcher in publicly funded projects and in projects in collaboration with other European databases promoted by the pharmaceutical industry and requested by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), some of which are included in the risk management plans for different medicines marketed in Europe. Since 2017, she has also been carrying out pharmacoepidemiology projects to support the CatSalut Pharmacotherapeutic Harmonisation Programme from the Technical Office of Pharmacoepidemiology, and since 2022, pharmacovigilance projects to support the Catalonia Pharmacovigilance Centre. Since 2019, she has been leading the participation of IDIAPJGol’s participation in the SIGMA Consortium, a network of European professionals who are experts in pharmacoepidemiology, responsible for providing scientific evidence on the use, effectiveness and safety of medicines, vaccines and medical devices, for example through the VAC4EU (Vaccine Monitoring Collaboration for Europe) platform for the pharmacovigilance of vaccines authorised for COVID-19. Since 2021, he has been part of the RICAPPS network (Research Network on Chronicity, Primary Care and Health Prevention and Promotion), together with various IDIAPJGol researchers and primary care professionals from the Catalan Health Institute. She has published several articles in indexed scientific journals on the use of drugs in different conditions, using data from the SIDIAP database of electronic medical records from primary care in Catalonia. She is currently a researcher in the R3a category (doctoral researcher with recognised experience and high impact) of the European Framework for Research Careers, and she is the principal investigator of a competitively funded project and one funded by the IMI. She co-supervises several doctoral theses. She has been teaching on the Master’s Degree in Digital Health at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya since 2020.

Clinical trial manager in primary care. Responsible for managing clinical trials with medicinal products promoted by IDIAP, from the initial authorization request phase to the drafting of results and the final report. Tasks include processing initial authorization through the CTIS (Clinical Trials Information System) portal, developing data collection forms using REDCap, and managing monitoring activities during the recruitment and follow-up period of trial participants.

“PhD in Pharmacology (UAB) and MSc in Statistics (UPC) with extensive experience managing drug utilization studies in Catalonia. Published a novel algorithm and statistical software, smooth [https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/smoothy/index.html], for modeling drug exposure from electronic health records (EHR). Specializes in advanced modeling, pattern mining in unstructured data, and standardizing EHR data mining to obtain meaningful insights for research advancement.”
