Research COREs

The IDIAPJGol structures its research into four main COREs, which are further divided into different research areas.

  • Core 1: Health Services Research

This area focuses on the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of healthcare programs, interventions, and services, taking into account research on their implementation. It also examines the use of health technologies and pharmaceuticals and includes foundational research related to evaluation methods, questionnaire validation, measurement approaches, and patterns of multimorbidity, among others.

  • Core 2: Prevention and Management of Chronic Health Conditions

This is a broad research area aimed at generating new evidence related to preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic activities addressing the main chronic health conditions in Primary Care.
Research groups work across the following lines: cardiovascular conditions; musculoskeletal conditions; respiratory conditions; diabetes; cancer; and other chronic health issues.

  • Core 3: Health Behaviours, Ageing, and Life Stages

Health promotion is one of the most relevant aspects of prevention in primary care. This area addresses how to promote healthy behaviours across different stages of life. Key lines include: promotion of healthy behaviours; active and healthy ageing; maternal and child health research; and research on school health and adolescence.

  • Core 4: Mental Health

This area focuses on the study of epidemiology, as well as clinical, therapeutic, and care innovation aspects in the field of mental health within Primary Care. It covers the prevention and both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment of mental disorders, including child and adolescent populations, and more recently, the impact of the pandemic on the mental health of healthcare professionals and patients.
