Citizen-Participation

Citizen participation in research projects

People are increasingly taking a more active role in their health. Person-centered care aims to tailor health care to each individual, taking into account their preferences, beliefs and values and facilitating their participation in decision-making. However, currently, most of the time we research “AT” people but not “WITH” people. People often remain a source of data and only in a few cases are they the protagonists of the research process that directly affects them. Therefore, citizen participation in research is necessary to encourage its results to be more easily applicable and more translational.

Based on this need, IDIAPJGol defined in the 2014-2017 strategic plan the objective “Promote actions that allow patient participation in research projects”.

In order to achieve this strategic objective, IDIAPJGol has designed a project entitled “People First: Promoting Citizen Contribution in Prioritizing, Designing, Developing and Disseminating Primary Care Research”. The main objective of the project is to promote citizen contribution in prioritizing, designing, developing and disseminating research projects carried out in Primary Health Care in Catalonia, as a strategy for empowering citizens in health research policies.
