  • 11 APRIL 2023

The study “Determinants of the consumption of regular soft drinks, sports drinks, and energy drinks among Spanish adolescents” has been selected by the journal Nutrients as a candidate for best article in the awards organized by the scientific publication.

The researchers from the Metropolitana Nord Research Support Unit who took part in this study are Vanessa Cruz Muñoz, Marta Urquizu Rovira, Victoria Valls Ibáñez, Josep-Maria Manresa Domínguez, Gerard Ruiz Blanco, and Pere Torán Montserrat.

The study analyzes the increase in the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and how their health impacts justify public health policy action. It evaluates the associations between socioeconomic and lifestyle variables and the consumption of regular soft drinks (RSD), sports drinks (SD), and energy drinks (ED) among adolescents. The research was conducted with a sample of 3,930 Spanish adolescents (2,089 girls and 1,841 boys) aged between 13 and 18 years.

This study was selected as one of the articles published in the journal throughout 2021. Three research or review articles will each receive an award. The winners will be announced on August 30 on the Nutrients website.
