Clinical trials, especially those involving medicines and medical devices, but also nutritional products, cosmetics, etc., are experimental studies of high logistical complexity and long duration, subject to specific legislation and requirements.
IDIAP Jordi Gol, through the Drug Studies Unit (UEM), has a clinical trials unit with a multidisciplinary team experienced in sponsoring, conducting and monitoring clinical trials in the Primary Care setting—a context that, due to its characteristics, requires specific strategies for the successful execution of these studies.
The Drug Studies Unit is responsible for promoting independent clinical trials with medicinal products in primary care, providing support services for their design and execution, ensuring feasibility and compliance with all ethical and legal requirements. The unit’s multidisciplinary team provides all services necessary for a clinical trial: monitoring, pharmacovigilance, statistics, drafting protocols and reports, handling authorizations and other administrative procedures.
Since the creation of the clinical trials unit at IDIAP Jordi Gol, numerous independent clinical trials with medicines have been carried out in primary care centers, many of them inspired by ideas from primary care researchers.
