Several primary care teams within the Baix Llobregat, Delta and Penedès Primary and Community Care Management Areas have begun the implementation and participant recruitment phase of the ESVIDA project, which seeks to improve adherence to healthy lifestyle habits in primary care through a mobile application.

Participant recruitment has already started at the 17 de Setembre Primary Care Centre in El Prat de Llobregat, the Jaume Soler Primary Care Centre in Cornellà de Llobregat, and the Jaume I Primary Care Centre in Vilanova i la Geltrú. Recruitment is expected to begin shortly at the Rambla Primary Care Centre in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, as well as at the Ribes and Penedès Rural primary care centres.

Clinical Trial

ESVIDA is a randomized clinical trial coordinated by IDIAPJGol that aims to improve adherence to non-pharmacological healthy lifestyle interventions among adults with overweight or obesity through innovative digital tools and gamification strategies.

The project is part of the European collaborative network under the EU4Health programme (Joint Action on Cardiovascular Diseases and Diabetes – JACARDI), which has provided additional funding to support the initiative. The main contribution is focused on the patient self-management work package and is linked to the research activities of the MARCEVAP group (Disease, Cardiovascular Risk and Lifestyles in Primary Care) within the South Metropolitan-Penedès Research Support Unit.

The intervention combines a gamified video game with the eSalutMetroSud digital platform to encourage sustainable lifestyle changes related to healthy eating, physical activity, rest and emotional well-being.

Participants are followed for 12 months through their primary care centres, with regular visits and questionnaires assessing lifestyle habits and quality of life. At the same time, the video game provides challenges, recommendations and educational content tailored to different user profiles.

Over the past few weeks, training sessions have been delivered to participating healthcare professionals to present the project, its workflows and the associated digital tools. The initiative relies on the active involvement of healthcare professionals in identifying potential participants, recruitment, follow-up and support throughout the intervention.
