During the event, Ana Fernández from Ingecal explained current regulations regarding medical devices. Her talk helped clarify practical questions about the steps required to design and patent a new device. Meanwhile, David Verde, head of the IDIAPJGol Innovation Agency, presented the Real World Lab. This service is the institute’s commitment to providing a system for qualitatively and quantitatively validating solutions in a real-world setting. Moreover, being based in Primary Care makes it even more powerful, as it is the first step in the health system and where most high-impact conditions, such as chronic diseases, are treated.
Afterwards, the three innovation universes of IDIAPJGol were presented: care processes, digital health, and medical technologies. For each area, attendees were able to learn first-hand about three projects promoted by the Institute’s researchers or in collaboration with the Innovation Agency: Hefestos, EPIBAS, WthsWrng, Tobbstop, AFAI, Odisea, MNENE, Nystavert and Artificial Intelligence for chest X-ray reading.
Next, Núria Martí, Director of Innovation and Business Development at Biocat, explained the characteristics that make the Catalonia BioRegion an excellent place for innovation and research. She also described the different programmes and services that researchers can use to start entrepreneurial projects.
Finally, the event was closed by Robert Fabregat, Director of Biocat, and Josep Basora, Director of IDIAPJGol, who agreed before the audience to join efforts to give greater weight to Primary Care within the BioRegion’s programmes.
