Pere Torán Monserrat, coordinator of the Northern Metropolitan Research Support Unit and principal investigator of the Peripheral Arteriopathy Group (ARTPER) at IDIAPJGol, received the 2024 Research Career Award in Primary Care from the Catalan Health Institute (ICS). The award was presented during the 16th ICS Research Conference, held in Lleida on November 6, 2025.
During the event, Maria Rosa Dalmau, principal investigator of the Primary Care Intervention Assessment Group (GAVINA) at IDIAPJGol, was also recognised with the 2025 Research with Impact Award, which she received ex aequo for her project aimed at improving the adequacy of anticoagulant treatment in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation through the implementation of the CDS-NVAF tool. This tool, integrated into the primary care electronic health record, enables the visualization of time in therapeutic range and has contributed to reducing hospitalizations due to stroke and mortality.
Meanwhile, Rosalia Dacosta-Aguayo received the 2025 Best Research Poster Award from the ICS, which highlights the quality and relevance of her scientific work in the field of primary care research.
Relevant scientific contribution
Pere Torán has an outstanding scientific record with international impact. His research focuses on cardiovascular health, COVID-19, and population-based research using health records. He has led several studies addressing peripheral artery disease and the impact of the pandemic on primary care. This award recognises not only the quality of his scientific output but also his commitment to strengthening research within the primary care setting.
Excellence, talent, and diversity
The ICS Research Awards celebrate the excellence, talent, and diversity of the research carried out at IDIAPJGol, and reflect the Institute’s commitment to generating knowledge that contributes to improving the health and quality of life of the population.
This year, out of the seven award categories, five were granted to women researchers, highlighting the growing role of women in biomedical research in Catalonia. The 16th ICS Research Conference brought together professionals from across the region to share progress and challenges in clinical and translational research.
