The IDIAPJGol 2023 Report highlights that the number of projects with European funding has doubled compared to 2022, with a total of 24 new projects, and it has strengthened its presence in global research networks.

Read below the summary of the year made by the director of IDIAP, Josep Basora.

2023: A Year of Growth and Consolidation of Primary Care Research

Primary Care is the cornerstone of our healthcare system, addressing the management of chronic diseases and the implementation of prevention strategies. At IDIAP Jordi Gol, we are dedicated to advancing research that directly impacts patient care and public health.

In 2023, we witnessed considerable growth in our research activities. Our institute initiated 64 new competitive projects and 120 non-competitive projects, with a total of 588 active research projects. Our international collaboration expanded significantly, with 24 new European projects, further strengthening our presence in global research networks. Industry partnerships also progressed, with 12 new clinical trials and 4 observational studies.

We are proud to have recertified ISO 9001, confirming that our Quality Management System meets international standards. This certification, awarded after a rigorous audit, validates the effectiveness of our internal processes and stands as a mark of excellence both externally and internally.

The impact of our research is also increasingly felt in public policies. In particular, the Equity and Menstrual Health study, has played a key role in shaping new policies to ensure access to reusable menstrual products for vulnerable populations in Catalonia. This collaboration between research and activism has paved the way for the implementation of these measures in 2024.

In line with our commitment to fostering talent, we launched the Barbara Starfield doctoral grant, supporting Primary Care professionals in pursuing doctoral theses through international collaborations. This initiative aims to consolidate research lines, build expertise, and attract young talent to further our participation in global research calls.

Additionally, we began implementing Fundanet, a new software system for managing research projects and scientific production. This summer, we launched the scientific production module, allowing our researchers to manage their CVs and integrate their research contributions more efficiently. This rollout is expected to continue throughout the fall.

Beyond research, we strengthened our internal collaboration with a successful Retreat in May. This participatory day brought together over 100 professionals for a dynamic World Café session, fostering synergies across research areas and geographies. This exercise in shared intelligence will lay the groundwork for IDIAPJGol's future Code of Collaboration.

Our communication and outreach efforts were also impactful. The launch of a Corporate Identity Manual and a Filiation Manual helped streamline communication both internally and externally. Key events, such as the EU4Health conference and the 3rd IDIAP's Innovation Conference, highlighted our leadership in Primary Care innovation. Social media engagement increased and the quality of the media appearances, helping to amplify our voice in the health research community.

With these achievements, we look ahead with confidence, continuing our mission to improve health outcomes through rigorous research, strong collaborations, and effective communication.
