Mireia Gascón, a researcher at the Central Catalonia Research Support Unit of IDIAPJGol, is listed among the top 1% of most-cited authors in 2024, according to Clarivate Analytics, the company managing the Web of Science database. This list identifies researchers with the greatest scientific influence in their fields, based on the number of citations their articles published in Web of Science-indexed journals have received, one of the leading repositories of scientific literature. The IDIAPJGol researcher ranks among the most-cited scientists in the social sciences.

Gascon is a biologist with a solid career in environmental epidemiology research, with experience in population and occupational health studies at both national and European levels. During her PhD, she specialized in analyzing how pre- and postnatal exposures to chemical substances affect children’s health. In 2019, Gascon received the prestigious Miguel Servet grant (from the Carlos III Health Institute, co-funded by the European Union) to delve deeper into how environmental exposures during pregnancy and childhood influence gut microbiota and the immune system. She also leads projects studying the impact of pollution on children’s neurodevelopment.

The Clarivate Ranking
Clarivate Analytics was established in 2016 to manage Web of Science, among other platforms, a service previously operated by Thomson Reuters. For over ten years, the ranking of the most influential researchers has been compiled through quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The ranking is based on the volume of citations received by authors of articles published in Web of Science-indexed journals, a key indicator of scientific impact, and on expert reviews assessing the influence of researchers' contributions on the scientific community.
