Why does IDIAP use the COIB Image Bank?
The visibility of professional groups in the media is often dependent on a type of image that provokes gender or social stereotypes. When a media tries to accompany a news item with an image that complements the written information, if it does not have a photograph that shows a detail of the news item, it will be forced to go to an image bank. It will therefore take a more neutral image that serves to give context to the news.

But many times these photographs do not show the reality of the group described in the news. And this happens a lot in the healthcare field. That is why, with the intention of giving a truer and closer image of the collective of nurses, a few years ago the Official Association of Nurses and Nurses of Barcelona (COIB) launched its image bank, free access and use under Creative Commons license.
The final objective is to provide the media with those graphic documents that best reflect the real work of nurses. These photographs taken by two professionals, Ariadna Creus and Àngel Garcia, capture the practice of the profession in all its heterogeneity and show the professionals realistically and with a very close look to our socio-cultural context.
This is why, from IDIAP Jordi Gol, we always try to use images from the COIB image bank to illustrate our news. Fighting gender inequalities, promoting the inclusion of all groups or promoting the visibility of non-regulatory bodies are goals that we make our own.
