Lleida Primary Care carries out training and awareness against Female Genital Mutilation
Coinciding with the fact that last Monday, February 6, the Day Against Female Genital Mutilation was celebrated worldwide, we take the opportunity to inform that Lleida Primary Care is carrying out an awareness and training campaign on this very topic. The campaign is part of the prestigious Research Project called ISMiHealth (Innovative Tool for Disease Detection and Vaccination for the Immigrant Population at Risk) in which the Institut Català de la Salut participates, among other entities, and the Fundació d’Investigació en Atenció Primària IDIAP Jordi Gol i Gurina.
During this first quarter of 2023, training has already been carried out in 6 Lleida Primary Care Teams: these have been the EAP Lleida Rural Sur, the EAP Almacelles, the EAP of Artesa de Segre, the EAP Alfarràs-Almenar, the EAP Ponts and the EAP Alcarràs. This training is given to all the Primary Care Teams and in all professional categories, and it is expected that it will be carried out in all the Primary Care Centers of Lleida throughout this year 2023.
We therefore join the demands of many entities and platforms that ask for resources and awareness about this problem, what affects more than two hundred million women around the world, who experience this type of gender violence or suffer its consequences.
It is estimated that in the province of Lleida there are around 950 girls between the ages of 0 and 14 with origins in countries where ablation is still practiced, and therefore, they are at potential risk of suffering total or partial amputation of the genital organs. .
Our intention is to continue training our professionals, both in the near future, as well as in the medium and long term, and, at the same time, raise awareness and sensitize as much as possible about this serious problem.
