We present the results of the ISAAC-CAT project
Did you know that the latest estimates indicate that in 2050 more people will die from the problem of antibiotic resistance than from cancer? And that reducing the unnecessary prescription of antibiotics is the most efficient strategy to reduce resistance? Can improving professional-patient communication skills reduce the unnecessary prescription of antibiotics in Primary Care? And the use of rapid diagnostic techniques such as determination of C-reactive protein?
In 2018, the TV3 Marathon awarded the coordination of the ISAAC-CAT project, one of the infectious disease projects, to dr. Carles Llor, from IDIAPJGol, together with CAMFiC - Catalan Society of Family and Community Medicine and the International University of Catalonia. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of two interventions on health professionals in reducing the unnecessary prescription of antibiotics in respiratory infections.
The project, carried out 100% in Primary Care, we started in 2019 with great enthusiasm when we had not yet heard of COVID... and more than 200 Primary Care professionals from Barcelona from the Catalan Institute of Health signed up! ! Despite the obstacles that we have been encountering along this path, especially the pandemic, which forced the premature end of the study recruitment, we have been able to move forward, thanks to the immeasurable commitment of our healthcare professionals, and this year is the time to explain our results!
We encourage you to connect on Monday, January 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., to the webinar presentation of the ISAAC study.
