The BMJ magazine publishes the article on the Reobrim Sitges cohort study

On May 20, 2021 IDIAPJGol participated in a study to assess the impact of the reopening of nightlife in Sitges on the transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2. Now, the BMJ magazine publishes the scientific article with the results of the trial.

The mean age of the 391 participants was 37 years and 44% were women. The volunteers, who had previously had a negative rapid antigen test (TAR), remained in the leisure area for an average of 177 minutes (minimum 59 and maximum 210).

As the researchers and researchers expose in the article, no positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 were detected at 14 days among the participants.

As conclusions, the researchers point to the publication that attendance at nightlife in controlled conditions and with a negative ART requirement was not associated with greater transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2 in a pandemic context of low infection rates. The opening of the nightlife sector was considered safe in these circumstances, with reduced capacity, and access controlled by ART, in environments where compliance with sanitary measures can be maintained.

The study was conducted by IDIAPJGol and the Department of Health with the support of the Sitges City Council. The Association of Nightlife Establishments of Sitges, the Catalan Federation of Nightlife Venues and the Sitges Hospitality Association also collaborated.
