We present the study Equity and Menstrual Health in the Parliament of Catalonia
Last Monday, May 30, IDIAPJGol researchers Laura Medina-Perucha and Anna Berenguera appeared before the Equality and Feminism Commission of the Parliament of Catalonia to present the study on Equity and Menstrual Health.
From this commission, several political parties signed a petition so that the researchers could present the study, taking into account that it is a topic of interest on which they want to promote policies.
Apart from presenting the study, the researchers were asked to make recommendations on the initiatives that should be promoted. Among others, the IDIAPJGol team defended the need for menstrual inequity to be addressed from public policies that are based on social and gender equity i that consider the diversity and specific needs of different groups of women and people who menstruate.
“These policies should focus not only on addressing menstrual poverty, but also the lack of menstrual education and healthcare for menstrual health, the difficulty of menstrual management in work, school and public settings, as well as the stigma and discrimination that menstruating women and people live associated with menstruating, among other aspects of menstrual inequity”, concluded Medina-Perucha.
