The Catalan Institute of Health rewards the scientific research of its professionals at the ICS Research Conference 2020-21
Dr. Miguel Ángel Muñoz, coordinator of the USR of Barcelona, receives the 2020 ICS Research Career Award in Primary Care. The recognition, which had been made last year, had not been accompanied by the award for the pandemic. This year, Muñoz was able to collect his award during the day.
The Vall d'Hebron Campus has hosted the Research Conference of the Catalan Health Institute 2020-21, in which the ICS Research Awards corresponding to the years 2020 and 2021 have been awarded. current situation of the investigation in the ICS and the world, and of the investigation in Covid-19.

The ICS Young Researcher Award 2020 has been for the doctor; Joaquín Burgos; the ICS 2020 Research Career Award in Primary Care, for the doctor; Miguel Ángel Muñoz; and the Research Career Award to ICS Hospitals 2020, for the doctor; Josep Tabernero. The Prize for the Best Research Article in Health Sciences 2020 has been for the researcher in the predoctoral training phase, the research institutes linked to the ICS,; Mireia Ramos.
This year, the ICS 2021 Nurse Research Career Award went to the doctor; Jordi Adamuz; (IDIBELL); the ICS Young Researcher Award 2021, for the doctor; Oriol Yuguero; (IRBLleida), and the ICS Hospital Research Career Award 2021, for the doctor; Rafael Simón; (VHIR). The Prize for the Best Research Article in Health Sciences has been for the one prepared by the professional of the ICS 2021 Residents Program; Blanca Borràs Bermejo; and the Prize for the Best Research Article in Health Sciences prepared by a Researcher or Predoctoral Researcher of the ICS and the Linked Research Institutes 2021 has been; ex aequo; in order to ; ; Juan Carrillo; (IGTP) and; Garazi Serna; (VHIO).

Doctor Joaquín Burgos, ICS Young Researcher Award
Joaquín Burgos Cibrian is an associate physician in the Infectious Diseases Service of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital and principal investigator of the Infectious Diseases Research Group of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute. He also works as a professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. His main areas of interest are human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, infection with; HIV ; (HIV) and pneumonia. He has participated as a researcher in multiple clinical trials and has published 60 articles, 25 of which as first signatory, with nearly 1,000 citations. He has also obtained competitive funding for several projects as principal investigator and has been awarded the Young Researchers Award, in HIV research, by the AIDS Study Group-SEIMC.
Doctor Miguel Ángel Muñoz, ICS Prize for Research Career in Primary Care
Muñoz is the head of the ICS Primary Care Research Support Unit at the Jordi Gol University Institute for Primary Care Research in Barcelona and is an associate professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He represents IDIAP in the European General Practice Research Network and is a member of its Strategic Research Committee. He is also a member of the Council of the European Primary Care Cardiovascular Society and of the Council on Epidemiology and Prevention of the American Heart Association. His lines of research focus on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and the study of social inequalities in health. He has supervised several doctoral theses and has implemented a research methodology training program that has been consolidated among our primary care professionals at the ICS in Barcelona. In addition, it has published a total of 97 scientific articles with a cumulative impact factor of 519,381,; with an H index of 28.
Doctor Josep Tabernero, Award for Research Career to ICS Hospitals
Josep Tabernero is head of the Medical Oncology Service of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, and director of the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology and of the Molecular Cancer Therapy Research Unit (UITM «la Caja»). He is also a professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Vic and has taught at the UAB as an associate professor. A specialist in colorectal cancer, he has led several international projects such as the Gastrointestinal and Endocrine Tumors Group -which has participated, with a notable impact of results, in some of the most relevant cooperative academic research projects in Europe regarding the study of gastrointestinal tumors. He has supervised a dozen doctoral theses and final degree projects and is the author of numerous scientific publications and co-author of many others, with an H index of 96 and 53,000 citations. He is considered by the Spanish edition of Forbes one of the three most influential leaders in the medical care of cancer and appears, since 2006, in the list of highly cited researchers in the category of clinical medicine that he publishes; Web of Science. He also participates in different international societies, such as the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society for Clinical Oncology; and the European Society for Medical Oncology, of which he was president (2018-2019). In 2019 he received the National Research Prize of Catalonia, awarded by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation and by the Generalitat of Catalonia, in recognition of his contributions in advancing cancer research. Finally, in 2020 he was appointed a member of the Assembly of the European Union that advises the Mission Board for Cancer (European Commission).
Dr. Mireia Ramos, Award for the Best Research Article in Health Sciences
Mireia Ramos has a degree in Biomedical Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and is specialized in bioinformatics research for the Bioinformatics master's degree from the University of Murcia. In 2020 she received a doctorate in Biomedicine from the University of Barcelona, for the study of the implication of the regulatory networks of beta cells of the pancreas in the development of type 1 diabetes, which she carried out under the supervision of the Dr. Lorenzo Pasquali at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute. She currently works as a postdoctoral researcher at Pompeu Fabra University, where she continues the line of research started during her doctorate.

Doctor Oriol Yuguero, ICS Young Researcher Award
Oriol Yuguero Torres is a doctor in the Emergency Service of the Arnau de Vilanova de Lleida University Hospital (HUAV) and principal investigator of the Emergency and Emergency Research Group of the Lleida Biomedical Research Institute (IRBLleida). He is also the president of the Healthcare Ethics Committee of the Lleida Health Region and has promoted the figure of the consultant or ethical consultant to provide answers to the dilemmas that may arise for professionals in their day-to-day lives. Regarding the Research area, it divides its investigation into the Emergency Service into two aspects. On the one hand, a clinical aspect to describe the most prevalent urgent pathology, focused on head trauma, in which it has obtained competitive funding from the Mutua Madrileña foundation. And on the other, a public health aspect, in which it has developed a screening program for chlamydia infection, a community emergency, especially for the youngest. Regarding the training area, he is a professor at the Open University of Catalonia and the University of Lleida, has been a member of different scientific committees for conferences and a speaker at different conferences.
Doctor Jordi Adamuz, ICS Nurse Research Career Award
Jordi Adamuz Tomás is a doctor in Medicine and Translational Research from the University of Barcelona (2015). Currently, he holds the positions of care research coordinator at the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), secretary of the Nursing Research Group (GRIN) of the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), and associate professor in Health Sciences at the University of Barcelona. He has published 21 original scientific articles that have received a total of 390 citations and more than 3,603 readings. His publications include:

Doctor Rafael Simó, Award for Research Career to ICS Hospitals
Rafael Simó Canonge is Head of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital and director of the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Unit at the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). He is also a tenured professor of Medicine and Endocrinology (UAB), coordinator of the Vascular Biology Area of the VHIR, associate director of Clinical Research of the Valle Hebrón Campus and principal investigator of CIBERDEM. He is the author of 371 publications (60% in the first quartile), with more than 10,702 citations and has directed 18 doctoral theses. He has participated in more than 40 competitive projects and has been the coordinator of two European projects (EUROCONDOR and Recognized). In the field of innovation, it is worth highlighting the registration of 7 patents (two of them licensed) and he is the founder of a derivative company ( spin-off); of the VHIR. Finally, it should be noted that the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service that he directs has been ranked 16th in the world ranking (the first in the State; Spanish and the fourth in Europe) in a study published this year by the prestigious journal & nbsp; Newsweek .
Blanca Borràs Bermejo, Award for the Best Research Article in Health Sciences
Blanca Borràs is a specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health, with a master's degree in Public Health UPF / UAB. He is now serving one year at the Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology service, where he trained as a resident, developing his work in prevention and control measures for the Covidien-19 pandemic (control of outbreaks, coordination of contact tracing, etc.). In the field of research, it is currently focused on the new variants of SARS-CoV-2 and their impact: reinfections, vaccine bankruptcies, etc. In the educational field, she is an associate professor of Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology at the UAB Faculty of Medicine.

Juan Carrillo Reixach graduated in Biotechnology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2016. He did a master's degree in Molecular Biotechnology at the University of Barcelona in the 2017/2018 academic year. Currently, he is studying the 3rd year of the doctorate in Biomedicine at the University of Barcelona in the Area of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Cancer, with a thesis directed by Dr. Carolina Armengol in the Pediatric Liver Cancer Group and entitled: "Molecular study and integrative analysis of pediatric liver cancer. Genomic, transcriptomic and methylometry analysis. "He has the scholarship as a new researcher (FI) from the AGAUR (Generalitat de Catalunya).

Garazi Serna is a biotechnologist with a master's degree in Genetics and Genomics. She is currently working as a laboratory director for the Molecular Oncology Group of the Valle de Hebrón Institute of Oncology and is doing a doctorate on the development of an IHC / RNAscope multiplex technology on the same slide. He developed the assay to detect fusobacterium in situ, which was crucial to publish in the journal; Science. He has experience creating image analysis algorithms for the quantification and analysis of different biomarkers and their spatial distribution and interaction.
