The ICS awards the 2020 Research Awards to researchers Miguel Ángel Muñoz Pérez, Josep Tabernero and Joaquín Burgos Cibrian
These awards promote high-quality research and recognize scientific paths of excellence. The prize for the Best Research Article in Health Sciences prepared by a Researcher or Predoctoral Researcher of the ICS and the related Research Institutes 2020 has been for Mireia Ramos Pérez of the Institut Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP)
The prizes for the research career of the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) are this year for Miguel Ángel Muñoz Pérez, Josep Tabernero and Joaquín Burgos Cibrian. All three have contributed significantly to the development of ICS health sciences research with activity of recognized scientific level. The awards were usually made public at the institution's annual research day, which this year has been postponed due to the pandemic.
The Institut Català de la Salut (ICS) carries out a great deal of scientific activity through seven health research institutes integrated into the organization's primary care teams and hospitals. Every year it organizes the ICS Research Day to promote high quality research and to recognize the scientific trajectories of excellence of researchers at the institution.
ICS 2020 Research Career Award in Primary Care: Miguel Ángel Muñoz Pérez –IDIAPjGol- CAP Sant Elias. Territorial Management of Barcelona Ciutat.
Muñoz Pérez is responsible for the Unit of Support for Research in Primary Care of the ICS-IDIAP Jordi Gol in Barcelona and associate professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, with postdoctoral training at the University College of London. His current lines of research are the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and the study of social inequalities in health.
According to Muñoz “this award is a recognition of everything that I have been doing for 30 years. I not only consider myself a researcher, a laboratory animal, but I have done a lot and I have done so that others can do it. I think you have to be generous, you have to help others. Therefore, this award is not only a recognition of the work that I have done for myself, but for the work that I have done to make Europe known that we exist, to take projects abroad and to help other colleagues ".
Award for Research Career in ICS Hospitals 2020: Josep Tabernero Caturla- Vall d'Hebron University Hospital.
Tabernero is head of the Department of Medical Oncology at the Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron and director of the Vall d’Hebron Institut d'Oncologia (VHIO) and professor at the University of Vic-UCC. Trained at the Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron and at the Hospital de Sant Pau, he rejoined Vall d'Hebron in 1997.
ICS 2020 Young Researcher Award: Joaquin Burgos Cibrian - Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron.
Medical specialist in internal medicine, associate physician of the Infectious Diseases Service at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, principal investigator of the Infectious Diseases research group of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona has been linked to research since I finished the specialty in Internal Medicine in 2010.
Award for the Best Research Article in Health Sciences prepared by a Researcher or Predoctoral Researcher from ICS and the Vicnulares Research Institutes 2020: Mireia Ramos Pérez- Institut Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP)
Ramos Pérez is a researcher in bioinformatics, interested in deciphering the cis-regulatory circuits that lead to diseases and developing software to help other researchers in their analyzes.
The seven health research institutes integrated into the organization's primary care teams and hospitals are: the Jordi Gol Institut d'Investigació d'Atenció Primària (IDIAP Jordi Gol, the Institut d'Investigació Biomèdica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL), which manages the research carried out in the Bellvitge and Viladecans hospitals; the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR); the Institute of Research in Sciences of the Salut Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) of Badalona; the Research Institute Biomèdica de Lleida (IRBLleida); the Institut d'Investigació Sanitària Pere Virgili (IISPV), which manages the research at the Hospital Universitari Joan XXIII de Tarragona and the Hospital Verge de la Cinta in Tortosa and the Institut d'Investigació Biomèdica de Girona Dr. Josep Trueta (IDIBGI).
