The purpose of the project is to gain knowledge of sickness absence patterns evolution among individuals with a history of mental health disorders in adolescence, and what are the key social determinants (including sociodemographic, socioeconomic, and lifestyle factors) influencing these patterns. Furthermore, how age and gender intersect shape these associations, and what underlying mechanisms contribute to these relationships. In this sense the idea is to know if there are barriers of facilitators to have access to sickness absence and if people even having access incur in sickness presenteeism (working while being ill). The three main objectives (corresponding to three studies) are:
– To identify and characterize sickness absence patterns of people with a prior mental health disorder in adolescence.
– To investigate the impact of social determinants (i.e., sociodemographic, socioeconomic, lifestyle factors) on the course of sickness absence (i.e., sickness absence trajectories).
o An intersectional perspective will be considered by exploring the interaction of age and gender in shaping these associations.
– What are the barriers and facilitators influencing access to sickness absence among people with a prior mental health disorder in adolescence?
