The year 2024 has been declared by the Generalitat de Catalunya as the Year of Jordi Gol i Gurina, in commemoration of the centenary of his birth, in order to highlight the legacy of this exceptional man, who continues to be a source of inspiration for all those who aspire to a medical practice based on a deep understanding of humanity and a commitment to the well-being of others.
Jordi Gol i Gurina (1924-1985) was much more than a conventional doctor; he was a defender of human medicine. With a holistic vision of medicine, he emphasized comprehensive and person-centered primary care. His life exemplified values such as solidarity and commitment to human rights. On this centenary of his birth, his legacy continues to inspire health professionals to approach medicine with empathy and compassion, always putting people at the center of everything. He was a firm defender of the relationship between doctor and patient. He introduced informed consent, palliative care and dignified death.
