Respiratory Diseases in Primary Care Emergent Research Group
Description
The research group is made up of health professionals belonging to primary health care service centres in Barcelona's Eixample Dreta and the pneumological service of the Hospital Sant Pau. It includes doctors and nurses from primary health care, specialised health care and the rehabilitation service. The group emerged as a consequence of the need to adequately coordinate the available health resources and to establish uniformity and consensus for the activities of the different levels of health care involved in its handling. It originated with the creation of the COPD Process, a multidisciplinary program joining primary and hospital care for the improved treatment of COPD. The group's objective, therefore, is to improve care of respiratory diseases through research into health services and applied clinical research (organisational management models, coordination between health care levels, reduction of variability) in order to improve the handling of these patients and their clinical results.
Research Lines
Study of comorbidity and exacerbations in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and early detection, Evaluation of a health education program in asthmatic patients, Validation of an organizational model and a clinical model of screening for the Apnea Hipopnea Sleep Syndrome (SAHS).
