Osteoporosis and Musculoskeletal Diseases in Primary Care Research Group
Description
The group is made up of a multidisciplinary team of researchers from Vallès Occidental that includes family doctors, nurses, rheumatologists and pharmacists, among others. The majority of the group’s members also belong to the Osteoporosis Work Group of CAMFiC (the Catalan Society of Family and Community Medicine). Through various research projects they collaborate with the Research Unit for Bone and Joint Physiopathology (URFOA) of the l'Institut de Recerca Mèdica Parc de Mar (IMIM) and with the British universities of Southampton and Oxford.
The group’s objective is epidemiological research and analysis of the influence of known risk factors on the development of musculoskeletal diseases (basically osteoporosis and arthrosis) and the treatment of these pathologies in primary health care.
Research Lines
Osteoporosis in primary health care: validation of the FRAX scale in Spain. Genetic and clinical risk factors associated with the risk of fracture. Electronic registers and the treatment of osteoporosis. Variability of clinical practice Osteoarthritis or arthrosis in primary health care: Epidemiology of osteoarthritis in primary health care. Classic risk factors (age, obesity, etc.) and emerging risk factors (synovitis, comorbidity, vitamin D level, etc.) associated with the development of the disease. Quality of Life Related to Health in patients with musculoskeletal or other problems resulting in pain and/or loss of function which require physical exercise for their genesis and or recovery in primary health care.
