Observatory for the Study of Asbestos-Related Illnesses
Description
The observatory is made up of doctors from five specialities - family medicine, epidemiology, pneumology, occupational medicine and preventive medicine - who come from primary health care in the health region of Metropolitan North Vallès, the Catalan Institute for Medical Evaluation, and the hospitals of Vall d'Hebron and Parc Taulí. Its objective is double: on one hand, it aims to create an observatory to make an accurate protocol-based record of information of people with asbestos related diseases, irrespective of whether they are alive or not, with the condition that the information available fot these people be valid, reliable and confidential, so that from it a guide to clinical practice may be created. On the other hand, it aims so develop instruments for the early detection of asbestos related diseases, and approach strategies for these patients coordinated between primary and specialised health care and taking into account both therapeutic aspects and integrated attention of patients and their families.
