Research group: QUALITAT LABORATORIS ICS
Laboratory Group for the Research in QUALITY INDICATORS
Description
This group consists in physicians, pharmacists and chemists of the Catalan Health Institute that specialize in clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine. In addition, seven members of this group belong to the Laboratory Tests Quality Commission of the Spanish Society of Laboratory Medicine (SEQCML) and have over 15 years of experience on quality of laboratory tests. Another four members belong to the Extraanalytical Phase Quality Commission of the same society, which aims to determine the extraanalytical phase errors. The group has also international presence in the European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and laboratory Medicine (EFLM) working Group for the preanalytical phase and the Task Force on Performance Specifications in Laboratory Medicine. Quality indicators are essential to monitor quality management systems. They must be designed to detect errors as early as possible to guarantee the realiability of laboratory processes. Monitoring the results of quality indicators prevents errors that can affect the management of the patient.
Research Lines
Quality indicators in the clinical laboratory, Adequacy of requests for laboratory tests from primary care, Agreement on critical values and warning values in the e-CAP.
