The researcher from the Transversal Research Unit of IDIAPJGol and the Research Network on Chronicity, Primary Care and Prevention and Health Promotion (RICAPPS), Constanza Jacques Aviñó, participated on August 28 in a workshop held at the School of Public Health of Chile, within the framework of the project “Health data in indigenous peoples and migrant population in Chile: evaluation of records and characterization.” This initiative has as its main objective to develop a proposal for the integration of health records for these populations with the purpose of identifying deficiencies in current policies and formulating recommendations to improve the quality and completeness of health records. Dr Jacques is part of the advisory team of the project.

During the meeting, which was attended by academics, health professionals and representatives of civil society, the challenges related to the lack of health data and interoperability between registration systems in the migrant population were addressed. The need to enrich the records to create epidemiological profiles that help identify inequalities in access and health outcomes among migrant populations, compared to the general population, was highlighted. It was also proposed to carry out qualitative research studies to find out how data for this population should be recorded, considering the points of view of the actors involved.

In addition, the workshop highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration to address this complex problem, in which data science, public health and primary care combine to offer innovative solutions. This initiative represents an important step towards improving the quality of health records in Chile, to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable public policy. These issues can inspire proposals for primary care in Catalonia and the rest of Spain.
